Open Hands of MD is a nonprofit that assists neighbors in need with free food and household items. We participate in food recovery efforts to reduce food waste from grocery stores as well as warehouses. We assist in connecting neighbors in need with other humanitarian aid organizations.
Averaging between 70,000 and 80,000 pounds of food distributed monthly, food is donated from area stores and warehouses.
A sizable army of volunteers handles everything from management and logistics to food pick-ups, sorting, and running distribution days.
Neighbors can shop for their own items. The pantry usually has everything from fresh fruit and veggies to boxed goods and prepared meals.
